Job Description:

The Registrar/Practice Advisor is responsible to support the operations of the RPNAS in the areas of registration and professional practice. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position actions programs to ensure the legislative mandate and strategic goals of the organization are met. Primary responsibilities include overseeing member registrations, programs, education requirements, research, and committee support. In the area of registration, ensures the Association’s registration processes are administered in accordance with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act, its attendant regulations, by-laws and policies of the Association and is conducted in a manner that is transparent, objective, impartial and fair. In the area of professional practice, provides support to registered psychiatric nurses and employers to contribute to safe, competent and ethical psychiatric nursing practice. Responsibilities in this area include the application of relevant research in practice consultation, the development and implementation of standards and practice directions, and the administration of the Association’s continuing competence and quality assurance programs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in psychiatric nursing or a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing accompanied by a baccalaureate degree in education, health/public administration or a related area
  • Master’s degree in psychiatric nursing, education, health/public administration or a related area
  • An appropriate combination of other education and experience may be considered
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration as an RPN in Saskatchewan
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license


  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience as a RPN and must include practice in the domains of clinical practice, administration and education
  • Sound understanding of health professions legislation and the public protection mandate of regulatory bodies
  • Knowledge of the psychiatric nursing profession and mental health delivery systems
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nurse education
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication
  • Experience in teaching, facilitating and presenting to large and small groups
  • Experience with conflict resolution and managing difficult situations
  • Experience in managing professional practice issues
  • Experience conducting literature reviews and environmental scans coupled with excellent analytical skills and abilities to utilize and apply the information to the development of practice standards, responses, practice guidelines and position statements
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of database systems
