Date Discription
January 27, 2008. Official program proposal has been submitted to SIAST Program Council.
January 2008 Program length is now at 2 years, 4 months.
Course descriptions/learning outcomes have been sent to the RPNAS so the Education Approval
Committee can begin its formative evaluative process.
Further work on the conceptual framework for the program.
Program information now exists under an unofficial website on My SIAST, under What’s New.
Curriculum developers have begun process of developing the course manuals for year one of the program.
December, 2007 Draft proposal of the psychiatric nursing program has been completed.
All course descriptions and learning outcomes has been developed.
Curriculum descriptions and course content has been sent to all RPN faculty in NEPS for feedback.
November 8, 2007 Psychiatric Nursing Stakeholder Committee meets.
November 7, 2007 Meeting with RQHR psychiatrists for input into the curriculum
October 2007 Proposal put forward for technological means to deliver Years 2/3.
October 2007 Working on courses; overview of each course and learning outcomes associated with the course. As this is a SIAST program, course manuals need to be developed using a SIAST format.
September/October 2007 Sharing with RPN faculty from Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Regina of the program overview and seeking their input into the new proposed curriculum.
September 2007 Stakeholder meeting (teleconference) with inpatient mental health managers
September 2007 Overview of the program developed with the courses/terms/years. It is envisioned that year one will be in Regina with subsequent years of the program in outlying areas of SK. The length of the program is yet to be determined.
September 2007 Appointment of Curriculum Developers for Psychiatric Nursing Program
I am pleased to announce the appointments of Helen Timm, Wascana Campus and Linda Rabyj, Kelsey Campus, as curriculum developers for the psychiatric nursing program. Both Helen and Linda are experienced faculty who have worked in the former psychiatric nursing program and have been involved in NEPS since 1996.
August 2007 Development of draft of philosophy and goals of the program. The program will focus on mental health promotion and primary health care. It will be client focused.
June 2007 Notification of Appointment of Sue Myers to Program Head, Psychiatric Nursing
We are excited to have the opportunity to develop and implement a new psychiatric nursing program. I am delighted to congratulate Sue Myers on her appointment as Program Head, Psychiatric Nursing program.
