Standard #9 - Ethical
The registered psychiatric nurse practices nursing based on the Code of Ethics of the Registered Psychiatric
Nurses Association of Saskatchewan.
Rationale:
Inherent in the ethical standards of psychiatric nursing is respect for the life, dignity and rights of people
regardless of race, creed, color, age, gender, religion, politics, social status or disability.
Audit Factors:
- Provides care based on a respect for the beliefs, rights, values and customs of the individual.
- Uses judgement in sharing confidential information.
- Accepts responsibility for the outcomes of own nursing decisions and practice.
- Maintains a safe practice of psychiatric nursing care.
- Maintains standards of personal conduct which reflect credit upon the profession when acting in
a professional capacity.
