Standard #11 - Collaboration

The registered psychiatric nurse participates and collaborates with other members of the health care team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programs to meet the individual's need.

Rationale:
Services to the individual are provided by a variety of health care personnel in addition to the registered psychiatric nurse and it is essential that all contributions become part of an integrated treatment plan.

Audit Factors:

  1. Communicates the rationale for psychiatric intervention to other members of the health care team.
  2. Assists colleagues in identifying high-risk populations.
  3. Assists health care team to identify ethnic, racial and socio-economic factors affecting health problems of individuals.
  4. Participates with members of the team in identifying treatment needs.
  5. Participates with members of the health care team in assessing the effectiveness of available programs, including assessment of community needs, identification of services to meet these needs and identification of gaps in present services.
  6. Participates with colleagues and others to ensure continuity of health care services for individuals, families and groups within the community.
  7. Co-operates with other health disciplines by participating in and supporting research projects.
