The Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) is the regulatory and licensing authority for psychiatric nurses practising within the province of Saskatchewan.
Foreign trained applicants must meet the requirements set out in the Association's Act and bylaws (the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act, 1993 and the Bylaws for the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act) and provide all the required documentation to enable the Registrar to determine whether:
- the applicant is eligible to write the registration examination without further study or training;
- the applicant is eligible to write the registration examination following prescribed studies and/or training; or,
- the applicant is ineligible for registration.
Part A
- Completion of the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan Application For Registration Form (form enclosed). **The Affidavit on the last page of the form must be completed by a Commissioner of Oaths or Notary Public.**
- A certified copy of records outlining the theory and clinical content of the training program completed (syllabus or curriculum of training program) with complete course descriptions and hours per course. (Translated into English if in a language other than English)
- Proof of successful completion of the program. (Photocopy of graduation certificate)
- Proof of English competency, both written and oral, is required according to Association policy for those applicants who are not graduates of an English Language Psychiatric Nursing Program and whose working language is not English. (Policy attached)
- Proof of identity. (Copy of birth certificate, marriage certificate if name has changed)
- Payment of evaluation fee of $100.00. (TO BE SUBMITTED IN CANADIAN FUNDS)
- Submit Application For Registration Form, evaluation fee and all required documentation to the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan, 2055 Lorne Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 2M4, Canada.
When all above documentation is received, it will be reviewed by the Registrar. The Registrar will then notify you as to whether or not you may proceed in the registration process. You will also be informed of any contingencies, by way of additional educational requirements and time frames, that may apply.
According to the decision of the Registrar, if eligible, you will be advised to proceed according to Part "B" or Part C.
NOTE: If Part A of the application process has not been completed within one year, the application
will be invalid.
For applicants required to establish registration eligibility by writing the registration examination without further study or training.
- Submission of formal application to write the RPNAS registration examination no later than 21 calendar days prior to the date of sitting.
- Payment of examination fees.
For applicants required to complete further study or training prior to writing the registration examination:

- Successful completion of the SIAST Psychiatric Nursing Re-Entry Program.
- Submission of formal application to write the RPNAS registration examination no later than 21 calendar days prior to the date of sitting.
- Payment of examination fees.
The Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan will not be responsible for the costs of transcripts, validation of membership or license with other authorities, English translation, or any other costs incurred by applicants during this process.
