UPDATE BYLAW REVIEW: The RPNAS is presenting our proposed 2023 Bylaw Amendments for approval at the 2023 RPNAS Annual Meeting. The RPNAS undertook a complete Bylaw review in 2022 to ensure that we are meeting our regulatory mandate and that there is clarity in process. As a result of this review the bylaw portion of the meeting will be extensive. We advise that you have a copy of the bylaws available (see attached below) to follow along with as the changes are presented. This will allow for your informed vote.

Overview of Proposed Bylaw Changes

The RPNAS is presenting our proposed 2023 Bylaw Amendments for approval at the 2023 RPNAS Annual Meeting. The RPNAS undertook a complete Bylaw review in 2022 to ensure that we are meeting our regulatory mandate and that there is clarity in process. The RPNAS Legislative Committee worked closely with legal counsel to make recommendations and develop the proposed amendments. The document was also sent to key partners and Government for consultation.

The majority of changes focus on ensuring consistency and correctness in language, spelling and grammar. Of significant note is the proposal to eliminate the Non-Practicing category of membership. This category has become irrelevant with no benefit to the public, is administratively burdensome, and adds costs to our database administration.

Historically people could transition between practicing and non-practicing with little validation requirements. With advancements in regulatory expectations people transitioning from non-practicing to the practicing category of membership are now required to provide a number of documents and validations. This includes submitting a criminal records check including a vulnerable sector search, validation of hours and an employer reference.

In addition, membership in the non-practicing category assured members they would continue to receive RPNAS communications. As all our communication are now posted on our website – access to information is not contingent on being an RPNAS member.

We encourage you to review the attached document and come prepared to vote on the proposed Bylaw amendments at the RPNAS Annual Meeting on May 11, 2023. If you have any questions please contact the Executive Director/Registrar, Beverly Balaski, directly at .

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
